CORNISH DESSERT APPLE TREES

All Cornish apple trees are one year old maidens and are grafted onto a mm 106 semi dwarf rootstock this means producing fruit quicker 3-4years max crop 5-6 years and  giving a hight of 15-18ft tree depending on the growing conditions.

 two year old trees are sometimes available also trees can be grafted  onto other rootstocks on request for stewardship schemes.


Suitable varieties for dessert include;

BEN'S RED 

A very  pretty apple from Helston striped dark red in colour with russet dots,  sweet in flavour, flat in shape .2nd early to mid-season.

BOX APPLE 

A sharp yellow fruit, juicy with lots of flavour.Self fertile ,Season 2nd early-mid.

CORNISH AROMATIC 

Light green/yellow flushed orange red. Sweet aromatic & slightly spicy. A vigorous tree and a very attractive apple .Season late.

CORNISH GILLIFLOWER

A well known Cornish variety, knobbly exterior conseals yellow perfumed flesh. Intensly flavoured with sweet & aromatic tones. Will need a warm spot to grow. Season late-very late.

CORNISH HONEYPIN

A very sweet soft apple with a strong honey flavour,almost no acidity. Season 2nd-early.

Originates from Devon, but it has the right name. An apple with a pleasant pineapple flavour when stored for a month. Requires a well drained soil. Season mid.

PEAR APPLE

A early ,very unusual shaped dessert apple in the shape of a pear pale yellow in colour with a slight pink flush sweet to sub acid best to peal as the skin is thick.A good tree for the damp areas of Cornwall.

Dark red in colour, waxy with pink tinged flesh. Sweet aromatic and fruity. Wait untill its fallen before eating. Very attractive bloom. A must in a orchard. Season early.

RED PEAR APPLE

A seedling of Pear Apple but red in colour and not so thick skinned this one does prefer to be a little bit more well drained .Very sweet in taste.
